I think it's the only way I'll want to hear 80s music from now on.

@metavivor @BCAction Check out Julie’s follow list if you want to get some of her style in your feed, including Dog, Design, Lit, or Minnesota Music Twitter.

Thank you for bearing witness to Julie’s life, for the condolences and for honoring @jflindner's memory.

Instead of flowers Julie would want you to support your local live music or arts venue and the artists they serve. Donations should go to your local animal rescue group or metastatic breast cancer organizations like @METAvivor and @BCaction.

Julie always kept her connection to the Minnesota music scene and loved the new wave of conscious hip-hop personified by @doomtree, @yeahrightpos, and @dessadarling. To the end she never missed their live shows.

[and proudly wore gear] https://t.co/xFGJboLxkx

The next few years Julie explored the world. Trips to Ecuador found her hiking the Andes and dancing on bartops. With cats stowed in carry-on she started life in Geneva, enjoying music festivals, @MontreuxJazz and modern design. Fondue, and shows at @LeZooUsine became the norm. https://t.co/E97WnkPwlc

After meeting at a @FirstAvenue New Band Showcase they could be found regularly at The Uptown, 7th St Entry, the 400 Bar and other venues sharing their passion for local music. In between shows Julie expertly restored their craftsman house in Southeast Minneapolis.

In 1992 she married Paul Lindner, having met on an email list devoted to “Grunge” music six months prior.

Having landed in Minneapolis she immersed herself in the local art and music scene, lived in Uptown and followed the burgeoning careers of @Prince @TheReplacements and @TheSuburbsBand

So in these trying times it's always good to celebrate -- those little things that make life good.

My moment of joy is recently finding Computher and 8 Bit Weapon in my music stream.

Starting a GDPR Playlist

Suggestions welcome. So far I have:

- Der Kommissar
- The Pink Panther Theme
- The Final Countdown
- URL Badman
- Private Eyes

Name your band *P.O.P.* - confusion galore results.

- Bunch of sites drop the final dot *.* (dos based web server?)
- Youtube and Tunecore groups this with an older group named Pop! from Australia
- Play Music groups a bunch of stuff into Pop, Indonesian Pop, Rap etc.
- Amazon does the worst. Click through on P.O.P. and they serve up groups starting P.O, like P.O.D. etc.

Luckily a fave of mine named *P.O.S.* has managed to cross the SEO chasm.

*Paul* Added *Groove Thang* to *Bumper Music*

[manually constructed activity post]

Plug for my bumper music playlist[2] that you can use to spice up your meetings and give it that TGIF vibe. Suggestions welcome, description below:

----
Waiting for people to show up for your meeting? Add some Bumper Music! [1] These are instrumental tracks that can be easily faded out at any point.

Retrospective? Let's do the Time Warp!

Your "classic" weekly sync? Apache, Frankenstein, Hocus Pocus, and Green Onions have you covered.

Top Secret Project meeting? Moby's James Bond

Or just spice up your boring all hands with some electro/synth/funk.

Suggestions welcome!

*What are you listening to?*

Remember those days when you had your chat status connected to your music player, and your Livejournal posts included your music and mood? Was that just a fad?

So when is YouTube music moving to Moffett Place 3?

On my 3rd Nexus 6p. Things I have learned:

- Always upgrade the new phone to the latest build or backup/restore breaks. (With security updates that meant *6* restarts.)
- Good time to prune unused Apps.
- Don't forget to recache: Play Music playlists and Maps Offline data.
- Open each app one-by-one to get rid of "Okay, got it" prompts.

Things that are still painful:
- Entering long 20 character passwords in apps
- Transferring TOTPs in Authenticator

And since my last 4 posts have been cranky here's something to *crank-up* the volume to. An amazing story of art preservation and well worth a listen [available on Play Music!]

Was on the first cassette I ever owned. (First vinyl? Kiss Destroyer)

I wonder if people will remember their "firsts" going forward in a cloud based world....

Here's a 30 day challenge.

Only consume Youtube and Play Music content in a language you barely know.

This is how much of the world interacts with our products.

All of a sudden you understand why lyric videos are so popular on Youtube. It also explains weird comments on G+ from people that are just playing around with English.

I've been doing something like that for a few days. It's eye opening.

Oh and if you're interested in music discovery from Suisse Romande see the link below.

Looking for funky, but Wahlberg's not your style? Here you go.

Sadly it'll probably be taken down before I get off this shuttle. Sorely tempted.

Feedback from my wife who doesn't follow many people.

- didn't like having followers show up in the list of people.  She had created circles for design/art/music but they were not set to 'Following'.  I think we should ask users to check this on startup.  (I'm assuming that following-only circles are not used for hangouts)

- She saw someone she didn't recognize and from a following circle.  Her first choice was to remove the person from her circles.  That did not remove the person from the chat roster. How does Babel sync circle members and the chat roster?  ANything I can tell her? (She reloaded, logged-out, logged-in) etc...

Can you guess the theme of this playlist which ranges from pop to metalcore?

Also this contains a song that is not in Google Play (Erykah Badu)  What do you see?  Is it playable?  (Hope not, that would put us on par with Grooveshark...)

woohoo!  Warner Music on Google Play.  Glad to see they finally came around.

I was pondering about how pop music is tuned for mp3 dynamic range this morning and came up with an idea:

Google Play Musicgram

Just imagine:
- AM Radio effect for all your Sinatra songs.
- See what Elvis would sound like autotuned.
- "Chipmunk" Barry White. (or chipmunk Cyndy Lauper and see if your dog can hear it..)
- RPM 33,45,78 (for those that remember such things.)
- Def setting (adds random DJ scratching)

Or we standardize something like this as "html5 audio transforms".

When did the VU visualizer in Google Music (on android) start showing actual data instead of the fake random bar movement? Unexpected delight!

Oh and Daft Punk makes the meter jitter like it's consumed 10 cups of coffee.

Nice to see that Anil uploaded this to Soundcloud. This hold music is permanently seared into my brain after many years of using freeconferencecall.com..

Closing the viral loop: we're slowly getting there. Here's a personal anecdote.

- heard a neat song on the radio
- used Ears to figure out what it was.
- watched the youtube video via Ears link. Liked the 80s-TRONish vibe enough to +1 it.
- Searched for La Roux on the browser, found friends recommending specific tracks.
- back to Ears, go to Play Music.
- Bought the album after listening to recommended tracks.
- Sharing this here (and will on public G+ in a few) so others can discover.

Loops like this are what power your social network. We can still do a better job, but I'm quite happy with my experience here and I hope others will slowly get there too.

discover, consume, share, repeat FTW

Unofficial Google phone support today:

* GTV Music app (won't play an album, only plays first song.)
* Picasa Multiple account + dasher fun (uploads going to wrong account, looks broken because both accounts have same name/profile photo) Figured it out by comparing obfuscated gaia IDs..

Lots of "Open Link in Incognito Window" required, sadly :(
