Leaving Montclair...

So many memories at 2 Saroni Court. The location, house, and neighbors were spectacular. But now I'm creating an amazing new life in Burbank, so I hope the next family enjoys this gem!

@zshapiro @StarTribune @sfchronicle @PB_News Thanks Zack, many good memories of our time together at hi5.

Also that job meant we could afford a house in Oakland, which make Julie very, very happy.

In 2008 Julie made the trip across the bay to a tranquil, midcentury-modern house in the Hills. She tastefully restored the house and filled it with her own unique, quirky, minimal style. Tommy, and then Gus, became fast friends with the deer, turkeys and neighbor cats. https://t.co/oZk35nR3vr

Julie passed away Decemeber 12th, 2019 peacefully in her Oakland home. One of her favorite Sycamores songs was playing, softly. Her loving husband Paul and dog Gus were at her side.

Reminder that SoCal wildfire donations are being matched.

There's a tile memorial at Rockridge Bart for the Oakland Firestorm. Gets me every time.

*Oz News Update* - Early Q2

TLDR:
- Deathstar and other projects launched, we removed lots of code/GCUs/Zipit.
- We're going to keep removing code/GCUs/zipit.
- The +1 button will meet it's demise soon. Long live the G+ button.
- Contacts, People APIs and lots more are moving/moved.

And I'll leave you with some revolutionary, code killing, Oz-esque inspiration from Oakland's _The Coup_:

Glad to see a new major tenant in Oakland. Still think it would've been a super place for Google. Alas alas..

Idea: *bandwidth meter on shuttle*

or a data based way to stop data hogs.

- Install network monitoring on the router. Use sflow or something like http://www.pmacct.net/ Also gather interface stats (up/down/max bw, etc)
- display results for everyone to see
  - use built-in TV/video out (if available)
  - or use an led sign like the one below..

Messages that could be displayed:

  - Bandwidth warning 75% reduce usage.
  - No 3G/4G service.  Hang tight!
  - Warning.  Video usage @35%
  - Display stats for the current ride
     BW used this ride 420M
  - Or even better:
     BW used this ride: 56
  - Or sillier:
BW use this ride: .05 milli-SWE

Of course a programmable sign could be used for other things too.

Next Stop: West Oakland Park & Ride
Some interesting google-wide metrics (and not the stock price, please...)

So we have new *Die Techie Scum*  and *Tech out of Oakland* graffiti at the West Oakland Park & Ride

If Transportation folks can get someone on this it would be great (time is of the essence for this kind of stuff)

If not I'll try and pick up some solvent and rags this evening and clean it up...

Hey WOPR folks, let's clean up West Oakland.

I used to live in SOMA and there was a guy who would clean up all the trash and butts around the corner of 7th and Howard.  His small acts made a huge difference and he was the most popular guy in the neighborhood.

There's a trash bin at the corner of 7th and Adeline, so arrive a few minutes early, clean up and win a few hearts and minds.  And remember we have hand sanitizer on the bus.

One benefit of missing the shuttle is visiting the West Oakland McDonalds and observing the use of technology. Pretty much the opposite of Google demographics you can find anecdotal societal changes first hand at the WiFi watering hole.

Mobile first. Yes
Bluetooth headsets - more than you'd think.
Parents and kids on ancient wintel laptop.
Multiple IPads with keyboards.

Religious argument ended with "Look it up on YouTube!"

Oakland As game + this = 1h extra shuttle time!

[ and two more cleanup CLs written]

Tired of being asked to check-in to "West Oakland Mental Health" instead of the Parking Lot to pick up the Google Shuttle.  Used Mapmaker to edit, but am seeing the bug described in here:
