I also remember from a David Pogue TED talk that Palm employed a 'tap counter' to ensure that everything was only three taps away.

Agree, but WebOS was a major part of it. Granted they picked up Palm for a very low price, so maybe they don't care.
Derek Eskens this isn't the first worthy OS to disappear. Do you remember back in 2002/3 when Sun was working on a 3D OS, what ever happened to that? Then again, Microsoft pulled Kin on the heels of releasing Windows Phone 7 OS, so maybe HP has something else in the pipeline on the OS side?
Hold my Samsung Infuse in your left hand and any given Palm device in your right hand and it isn't so surprising...
