Hey, I just met Jim "TheCurmudgeon" this morning.  Seems like a nice guy, like all the other Smurfs.  It turns out he sits in 1950 overlooking that particular "[Untitled]" portal and can attack it (I think) from his desk.  He has grabbed it from me a couple times now.  I will see it under attack and deploy portals.  Then activity will stop.  Next think I know, the portal is gone.  Maybe his hand-to-hand combat is better than mine.
