Also this might be controversial, but we should have a proactive VIP queue for people like Wil. It worked well at LinkedIn (paying customers went to the front of the line). hi5 did it too (we had CS reps that killed off spam on the most popular profiles). And even Six Apart had business class blogs.

So you want to go to Google I/O this year? Last year it sold out in one hour, so you'll want to be prepared. Register for Google Wallet and Google+ before 7AM PDT March 27.
Man, I wish I could go. One year I'll find a way to get a trip out there.
I've enjoyed the 2 times I've went, was a lot of bang for the buck.. But the price this year kinda kills that.
There will be other ways of getting I/O tickets for actual devs. Add Google Developers to your circles to get updates on how and when!
You might also consider going to a Google-Developer-Day instead. All the dev goodness closer to you and less schwag hounds.. 2012 schedule should be announced at some point, here's the highlights from 2011.

We've got work to do.
I just spent a week in the Palm Springs area attending the Indian Wells tennis tourney while using our products. It was good to get outside the bubble for while, but it was frustrating -- especially since I know we can do much better. Issues I encountered:
* Public Google+ shares are rare. This might be expected with the demographics of the area (>50 year old golfers) -- however looking at my G+ nearby view I was the only person to publicly post the winner of the Tennis final (and that stadium holds 16k people...) Nearby stream was depressingly too -- only a handful of posts. Also I think the nearby view should expand distance in "sprawl-like" areas like this. When I was in Palm Springs I didn't see any nearby posts in the nearby towns.
* During the rain delay you had to look at the Facebook Tournament page to find out when play resumed. On-site they had a big 'Check-in with Facebook' ad on the changeable displays. On the 'Follow Us' screen they did at least have Youtube next to FB/twitter.
* Maps is really borked in this area. I commented on this earlier, but there are many businesses that are not there, or are located in the wrong place. MapMaker edits in the area are in queue for weeks it appears too. Navigation worked fairly well, however I encountered areas where nav got really confused -- not sure if the root cause is Mountains blocking GPS, plain crappy samsung GPS or that road info is not accurate.
* There are some weird Business names that must have been collected by Street View. For example _Elmer's Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner_ which is a literal reading of the road sign.

* System posts supported (my profile creation has already gotten one "Like")

* Very pinterest style for posts -- big page full of posts. None of this single-column vertical scroll.

* Friend finder not there.
* Sorted list of "New" users.
* Chat rooms.
* "t" button for notifications.

Hi, Paul: I cannot find a place to report problems about Google Earth directly so lucky I know you. I have used basic version for a long time and about three months ago it just crashed on loading every time. I can still get to parts of it using Yahoo maps. I have tried reloading to no avail. Also what do you think of the new OS? We are now living in Bend Oregon for a change of scenery. We have Whole Foods, Costco and other useful stores plus a really good cardiology department (Don't laugh...this item will get on your list one day).

Security reviews may seem unpleasant, but they're really important to defend our users against the bad folks out there and just plain unintentional sloppiness.
I have to commend the team, their diligence revealed some hair raising issues in a SaaS partner that could have had disastrous consequences for us and all of said partner's customers.

It's always interesting to bootstrap your friends on G+. In this case I'm helping a DJ/Producer get onboard. He wanted to get his Youtube account linked which has all his videos. (which is a separate Gaia)
First had to get him on multilogin (and have him chose different profile photos so he didn't get confused.)
Then guided him over chat on adding links to his G+ profile... which resulted in the following..
Hopefully getting him into a Hangout goes better.

It's mostly a focus issue -- The Opensocial "XML" format was a snowflake and didn't even have a proper schema. It's also part of a broader effort to mesh with established standards and reduce complexity.
(Also the pain of managing the XML/Atom code in shindig is a significant drag..)
I can imagine! Where would one look to get an overview of current real-world opensocial schemas? I mean a sense for what is actually used and useful? Anything that can feed into schema.org design discussions?
Since you mention it, we've talked about ideas for how to fit OpenSocial in with schema.org & microdata. But we haven't have the time to put any leg work into it.

Someday I hope to see Amanda Jones using G+ in addition to her Facebook and Twitter. She did a photo shoot for us some years ago. She's a great animal photographer and I think she'd be a great part of the photography community over here.

On Saturday, my friend Danielle and I got to try something awesome. Minneapolis' Minnehaha Falls freezes during winter. There's a little splattering of water still falling over the ledge, but most of it turns into this wonderful array of temporary stalagmites and stalactites, hanging like a curtain in front of a shallow indent in the rock.
I'd heard about people who climbed behind the ice before, but I'd always assumed you'd need special equipment--ropes and crampons--to get back there safely. Turns out, that's not the case. The hollow in the cliff face is shallow, but it's wide enough that you can just saunter on in with little trouble.
I posted one of these shots from my phone yesterday. Here's the rest of the set.
