I remember running a parallel mandlebrot set generator on that thing (one of my first experiments with the sockets API) and using way too much laser printer toner to print out a multi-page rendition of it.

I once had a 1951 Pontiac with a hood ornament that had an indian head that lit up. Very cool. It also had a straight-8 engine and a tube radio.

I'm somewhat alarmed that there really isn't a "Life of a Widget/Embed" that has best practices on how to embed Google Content on third party sites.
Has anyone tackled this before? Obviously +1, adsense, youtube, maps, analytics and others all use their own mechanisms.
Is it time to consider deploying common infrastructure for these use cases? Especially for systems that require the ability to identify a Google user?
So here's my proposal.
* Use oauth2 semantics everywhere: tokens and api requests.
* Use a single bootstrap system to identify js domain, collect API keys as needed.
* Generate two new types of OAuth tokens that do not contain user info.
- 'Anonymous-by-domain'
- 'Anonymous-by-domain-by-api-key'
* Allow an account widget that can move you from anonymous -> identified -> authorized. (including multilogin, signin and account registration)
If all the various embeds used this common system we'd have a way to enable personalization on third party sites more easily and provide a clear way to go beyond.

Imagine if we could infer the type of circle based on either the content you post there (via NLP), the linguistic name, or user specification?
We could:
-- boost/dampen the volume of a post based on circle matching:
I have you in my _Photos_ circle, you share to your _heavy_metal_ circle == dampen.
-- You post your high scores to _public_ + _chess_, I follow you in a circle named _games_ == boost.
-- My wife posts to _family_, I have her in _family_ == boost
-- My wife posts to _Tennis_ and public, I don't have her in a sports circle == dampen.
The reason I've been thinking about this is another what-if --
-- what if Apps had a one-to-one relationship with a plus page?
-- When I add an App, it can circle me back.
-- If I perform an action on the third party site the app can plus-mention me, or it can group together users into relavant circles to send updates.
-- I can put noisy apps in a circle and lower the volume.
Note that App could be a Game (like Angry Birds), an App (like Remember the Milk) or even a web site (like 8tracks or Soundcloud..)
Maybe this is stretching the model too much, but it's certainly fun to ponder!

That looks pretty darn handy. Too bad I don't have quite enough horsepower on my Iomega 2gb nas to do transcoding.. but then everything on there is natively playable by the gtv.. maybe I should give it a go.
Plex has their own media server that can run directly on the NAS. It's a lot better than DLNA in my opinion. Luckily Plex+GoogleTV supports most codecs. The only issue you might have is if you run Plex on your phone where transcoding might be an issue..
I've run plex on my previous DroidX, my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and now my Razr without any issues at all with transcoding really. As long as the encoding formats aren't too exotic it works fantastically. I refuse to screw around with DLNA at all.
Sounds worth a shot. I've got media-tomb running now to allow access from the PS3 and Google TV. It works kinda ok. The phone clients really seem to have a hard time with it though. Twonky will kinda work, then stop... and it forgets where it was if it stops.

That rate is sure not going to help small business in the City. The issue of parking is a hot one, is it a tax, service or is it a fine? And, what margin over cost should cities be allowed to extract from the public for their stated mission of "facilitating the orderly flow of vehicles in an our of retail areas". Somehow $50-100 tickets for missing a few minutes does not seem proportionate to the cost or offense - IMO improving this issue could really help small businesses EVERYWHERE
Parking cost is demand based on all new meters. Combined with real time information about demand I think that'll be great for small business because people who want to park and can pay will be able to.
