Here's something you won't find on Top Gear -- A car with true front-wheel drive.
The Zapatilla was minimal indeed, with no doors or windows or reverse gear. The 1 cylinder, 197 cc, two-stroke motor produced 9 horsepower (7 kW), had a crank starter, and drove only the right front wheel. Braking was by an unusual three-point system involving the transmission and cable ties to the two rear wheels. One genuinely advanced feature was an all-aluminum body, although steel was later used.

Get a case is my advice. I managed to crack both front and back of my nexus 4. In fact if you have already heard about a good protective case for it I'm looking for suggestions.
Reposting this writeup from Peiran Guo on the google groups list. It is so true. I deployed 40 resonators on 1950 Charleston a couple of days ago. Could've kept going if it wasn't for a meeting.
Bonus: you can piss off TheCurmudgeon. I hope for the sake of his career that he's hitting his OKRs since it seems like he's playing all the time and all over campus.
I wonder if there's any players in this area who are looking to level up. The resistance at Googleplex is oncall 9-5 on workdays and they respond with an SLA of less than 5 minutes to several of the portals on campus.
If you have a few hours to kill and want some easy AP, then bring about 200-500 resonators of any level, blow up one portal, stand back about 20-30 meters and tap the deploy button as fast as you can. I've seen people come running out of the buildings to clear your resonators for you like it's some sort of emergency or something. You'll get as much AP as you have resonators. If you find you can't keep up, you may need to slap a bunch of shields on the portal. You might want to find a bench in the shade in case you get tired. You might want to double check that your gps isn't floating too much before you begin. Maybe bring a sandwich or a drink if you think you might get peckish and don't forget to use the restroom before you start.

Hey, I just met Jim "TheCurmudgeon" this morning. Seems like a nice guy, like all the other Smurfs. It turns out he sits in 1950 overlooking that particular "[Untitled]" portal and can attack it (I think) from his desk. He has grabbed it from me a couple times now. I will see it under attack and deploy portals. Then activity will stop. Next think I know, the portal is gone. Maybe his hand-to-hand combat is better than mine.
I hit a portal in Dublin with a coworker on our lunch. We'd just gotten it up and were upgrading to get max experience and suddenly resonators started disappearing. We both started hitting deploy as fast as we could and I ended up with 8k experience and he ended up with 20k due to lag issues, probably. Depleted our resonator stock deeply, but got both of us much closer to the next level.
How did I miss this? @110388429398517693608 -- how well is this supported?
Man I hope that we only need a style="display:block" tucked in there for converting links to widgets.

I'm a bit worried that some Googlers are getting a little obsessive with this game. Not to name names but there are some people that have portals all throughout the googleplex in Mountain View and will take back anything that gets blown up in the matter of minutes.
I suppose it doesn't matter much now that the Resistance has taken over almost everything. I'm not going to bother and channel my obsessive-compulsiveness into my job instead...

Lessons learned taking down a dozen L8 portals.
SYB King organized an attack on the L8 portal farm in Jack London Square this monday. We had 2 L6s and ~4 lower level players. Some things I learned
- Planning helps. Know your targets and your XM spread. Scan the area for portals with closely spaced resonators.
- Stock up big time. We collected all the L8 items. Also bring low level stuff for the players that are just getting going.
- Move fast, 2 resistance were on site within 30m
- Attack from a single direction if you can. Make sure no one's sucking down XM ahead of your attacks.
- New client allows you to rapid fire many XMPs. You're likely not going to waste those on a L8 portal.
- Have a parallel XM source. We attacked the waterfront but could move two blocks up to enemy portals we were not attacking and move back.
- Have a "Medic" driving a car that can move people to nearby portals with lots of XM and bring them back to the battlefield all charged up.
- Open a 2nd front. When resistance arrived I took out a bunch of control fields nearby while I recharged. It seems that it would be a decent tactic to cycle people in and out quickly between the two attack areas.
- Have lower level people to hold the portals you claim since there will be counterattacks. They can get big AP placing res on portals being counterattacked.
At the end of the day they only retained 2 L8 portals. We knocked down over a dozen and farmed them dry. They sent in reinforcements and took them back. However it'll take them a while to get them back to L8.
I got to meet Moschops & Tanzanite before they called for back up, seeing that they were out numbered.
We had fun, did some damage, set up an L5 farm to load up on inventory, and some of us even leveled up later in the day.
If I didn't run out of XM quickly and had more L8 xmps...I would if enjoyed taking down those 2 last L8 portals, but the resistance where not going to give those 2 portals up so easily...they where recharging it real fast and deploying resonators as I attempted to take them down.

Attack en masse: Your 2xL6 + 4xOthers did a lot of damage.
Plus, the more folks you bring along, the more folks can farm your admittedly short lived portals.
You're right Bryan Freed ...that's why I love playing this game with friends and others...the entourage of players do come in handy and everyone gets to enjoy different aspects of the gameplay.

Everything has made much more sense to me once I really became "enlightened" about the fact that "Resistance" is just a term applied to and propagated by the smurfs to bolster recruiting. If you really look at the territory they control, (both global MUs and strongholds in the region), the list of high level operatives above, their activity 24x7 around the area, and the ties between the operatives listed above and the organization putting out the 'party line' (i.e. propaganda), the back story they're presenting doesn't really match the reality of the situation.
We just have to harass, disrupt, hit targets of opportunity, be agile,
build our strength, and wear down what really looks right now to be a
superior, well-organized force.
[And that's as "into it" as I've gotten to date RE the mythology around the game. :-)]

The hard drive shredder just drives a big spike into the drive. (I was hoping for something with big nasty grinding gears..) Plenty of old gear there: broken NeXT monitors, a Sun IPC, a SparcStation 1 and even an Oscilloscope!
It's e-waste day here at Google. Time to ditch all my 16MB video cards, 10base2 Ethernet cards, UltraSCSI HBAs (fast 'n wide) and some old tape backup gear.
I might keep the Pentium 2 just for the bed of nails heat sink. Raj Iyengar snagged the Myspace branded Flip video camera with the dead battery.
I wish there were more of those. I have so much e-waste/ parts that could find a good home to the right hacker. Sigh, i'm no longer that hacker.
The second I throw computer parts away will also be the day I find out I really needed one of those cables.
I loved the PII because ZIF sockets are always such a trick.
Oh man, why don't they call products "fast and wide" anymore? Everybody wants 'skinny'. I have a few of those. I think they were 2940s.
I have a really hard time throwing away some of my hardware. I've become emotionally attached to the parts I used for my first custom-built PC, for example. I'll probably hold on to them forever and bore my grandchildren with them.

william myrhang, Gus Class , Paul Lindner , it's funny because I think the SteamBox and a few other devices are going to bring back the Processor Socket design. I don't remember why, but it has to do with the current sockets not having the electrical requirements to push processors further. for the steambox it's more about upgrade-ability.

How Google+ could improve viral G+ marketing for free.
Unlike Facebook, Google+ is a great blogging platform.
Let's say you want to blog about another post somewhere. If you paste in the link, or click on the link icon, Google+ will add a thumbnail from the external post, plus a blurb.
But this is ugly. Some of the highest-traffic bloggers on Google+ don't use that system, including me. What we do instead is add a big, appealing photograph, the paste in the link in the body of the post.
The first method links plus-ones on the other post. In other words, when someone plus-ones a post on Google+, the original source plus-one count goes up by one. It's linked forever. If the same user comes back and un-does his plus-one, the count on the source site goes down by one.
However, if you do the big-picture method, plus-ones on Google+ are not reflected on the external post -- the plus-ones are not linked.
Here's an example of the problem: Yesterday I posted an item on Cult of Mac using the big-picture method. The post and its comments got well over 2,000 plus-ones. But over on the Cult of Mac site, the post got only 76 plus-ones.
People always mentally compare the Facebook "Like" count with the Google+ "plus-one" count and Google+ often looks like a slacker. But the reason is that likes for the the big-picture posts on Google+ aren't counted.
If Google+ had counted the "plus-ones" for my post, for example, the G+ count would have been much higher than the Facebook count, and people viewing the source page would have a more accurate comparison between Facebook and Google+.
Here's my proposed solution.
When a user pastes in a URL in Google+, and the system auto-generates the thumbnail-and-blurb thing and links the plus-ones of the two posts, the user should have the option of replacing the thumbnail-and-blurb without de-coupling the linked plus-ones.
That way, bloggers like me could use big-picture blog posts and still have plus-ones reflected on the source page.
Is this possible or desirable?

To be fair, in that post he did say he'd check out G+ again in a year, which he did. And my Authors circle has just grown by one.
